The Holy Spirit gives power to the believer

Learn about the reality of the Holy Spirit from key Bible passages:

imagesPresent  from the beginning of creation–  The Holy Spirit was present from the beginning “brooding over the dark vapors” before heaven and earth were created. Genesis 1:1 

Holy Spirit inspired the authors of the Bible   2 Peter 1:20-21  “Above all, you must understand that no prophecy came by the prophet’s own interpretation.  For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried by the Holy Spirit.”

Jesus teaches  eight characteristics of the Holy SpiritJohn 16:5-15  1) vs. 7  Holy Spirit, or Counselor will be sent to us by Jesus 2) vs. 8  The Holy Spirit will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin, righteousness, and judgment  3) vs. 13  The Holy Spirit, which is the Spirit of truth, will guide you into all truth.  4) vs. 13  The Holy Spirit will speak on His own  5) vs. 13   The Holy Spirit will tell you what is yet to come  6) vs. 14  The Holy Spirit will bring glory to Jesus  and the Father. The Holy Spirit helps us in our need- 7) vs. 5-7- the Holy Spirit convicts others through us to see their need  8) vs. 8-11. Convinces others to follow Jesus- the persuasion of prayer

Jesus promises the Holy Spirit after He has ascended to heaven John 14:16-18, 25-27 Eight additional facts about the Holy Spirit: 1) vs. 16. The Father will give you a Counselor (the Holy Spirit) to be with you forever- the Spirit of Truth. 2) vs. 17  The world cannot accept the Spirit, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. 3) vs. 17  The Holy Spirit will live with you and be in you.  4) vs. 18  The Holy Spirit will not leave you, He will come to you. 5) vs. 26 The Counselor, whom the Father will send in Jesus’ name, will teach you all things  6) vs. 26 The Holy Spirit will remind you of everything that Jesus has taught you. 7) vs. 27  The Holy Spirit will give you peace;  not peace that the world gives. 8) vs. 28   The Holy Spirit will help you not to be afraid.

Paul’s teaching on the Holy Spirit–  Romans 8:9-17 Seven facts about the Holy Spirit:   1) a Christian has the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) living in him or her.  2)  if you have sincerely trusted Christ for your salvation and acknowledged Him as Lord, then the Holy Spirit has come into your life, and you are a Christian. 3) when the Holy Spirit is working within you, you will believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son. 4) Vs. 11– you will believe that eternal life comes through Him- 1 John 5:5, 1 Corinthians 6:14, 1 Thessalonians 4:14   5) Vs.13 you will act as Christ directs, and not let sin reign in your bodies- Romans 8:5, Galatians 5:22-23  6) Vs. 16-17 you will find help in your daily problems and in your praying because we are heirs of God and co-heirs of Christ – Romans 8:26-27   7) Vs.14   you will be empowered to serve God and do His will, we can be led by His Spirit

Fruits  of the Holy Spirit–  Galatians 5:22-23  When the Holy Spirit controls our lives, He will produce three kinds of fruit in us:  1)inward qualities– love, joy, peace 2) outward qualities– patience, kindness, goodness 3) God-ward qualities– faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
