The Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) “Putting them together”

trinity_diagram.jpg googleThe word “Trinity” is not used in the Bible.  But it is an inherent belief of the Christian faith.  And the fact that almighty God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are “One in Three” is no doubt a difficult concept for our finite minds to understand.  What does the Bible say about our triune Godhead? Here are some key verses:

All three members of the Trinity are involved in salvation–  Romans 5:5-6  says, “And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.  You see, at just the right time, when were  still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.” The Father loved us so much that He sent His Son to bridge the gap between us and Him- John 3:16For God so loved the world that He gave us His only Son.  That whoever believes in Him, will not perish, but have eternal life!”  The Father and the Son sent the Holy Spirit to fill our lives with love and to enable us to live by His power- Acts 1:8–  “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you , and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

The Great Commission recognizes the Trinity   in Matthew 28:19,  Jesus’ great commission: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Jesus speaks of the unity of the Trinity–  John 15:26  Jesus said, “When the Counselor (Holy Spirit) comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, He will testify about me.”  John 17:21,23  Jesus prays for the unity of future believers; just as Jesus and God are one.

Paul talks of the Trinity -God, Son, and Holy Spirit–  Galatians 4:1-7 “God sent His Son to redeem us, that we might receive the full rights of sons.  Because you are sons, God sent the Holy Spirit of His Son into your hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father”.  So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.” (we inherit eternal life)  Ephesians 2:18  “For through Jesus Christ we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.”  Ephesians 2:21-22  “In Him (Jesus) , the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.  And in Him, you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit.”

Peter recognizes the Trinity connection–  Acts 10:38 During Peter’s sermon, he says, “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power,  and how He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him.”

Maybe a more concrete way to look at the concept is to see how water is found in three forms: liquid, solid, and gas.  All three are water, just in different appearances.
