Our final dwelling place: Heaven Part 2

Heaven is like a cityHebrews 11:16 Men and women of Christian faith live for heaven.  God has made a heavenly city for them.  Hebrews 12:22-24  Heaven is the city of God (called the heavenly Jerusalem). 1000’s upon 1000’s of angels are there in joyful assembly.  Believer’s names are written in heaven; their spirits will be perfect, and Jesus is there, the mediator of the New covenant.

In John 14:2-4, Jesus said to his disciples, “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you.  I am going there to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.  You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Fourteen things that heaven will lack from Revelation 21– 21:1– a sea   21:4– tears, death, sorrow, crying, and pain 21:12– fear   21:23– sun and moon   21:27– sin and evil   22:2– no physical or emotional disease   22:3– no remnant of the curse

Benefits we will have in heaven- John 20:19, 26 Unlimited by physical properties  1 Corinthians 13:12– vast knowledge  2 Corinthians 4:17– breath-taking glory  Hebrews 4:1-11– reenergizing rest. From the book of Revelation: 7:9-12– vibrant worship 7:15b God will protect all believers and “spread his tent over them.”  7:16 There will be no hunger, thirst, or scorching heat 7:17 The Lamb will lead us to springs of water 21:3,7, 22– nonstop camaraderie with God  21:5– everlasting newness  21:11,21– inexpressible beauty  21:12- perfect safety  21:12,14– complete unity among believers   21:27– infinite holiness  21:16– staggering size  21:18-21– incalculable riches  21:23– perpetual light  22:2– unceasing fruit from the tree of life  22:3– creative opportunities to serve God  22:5– eternal privileges of rule.

You’ll have a name of God, Jesus’s new name written on you  Revelation 3:11 Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.   Jesus will write on you the name of God in heaven.

We will be busy serving God in heaven  Revelation 7:15 We will serve God day and night in his temple in heaven.

Jesus, our great shepherd, will personally attend to us in heaven Revelation 7:17 For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, he will lead believers to springs of living water.

Remember: if we are believers, we are strangers on this earth and Heaven is our TRUE home.
