The Salvation Army Church

Salvation 3

Salvation 1

This church was previously known as The Christian Mission and was founded in 1865 by William (one time Methodist minister) and Catherine Booth in London, England.  This church takes seriously that they are “onward Christian Soldiers.”

salvation 5The church is modeled after the military, with its own flag, uniforms for its members, and music.  Their mission is to do charitable work and evangelize the Christian message to the poor and hungry by meeting both their physical and spiritual needs.

The organization states that its ministry extends without discrimination. The three ‘S’s’ best express the way in which the army administers to the ‘down and outers’: “first, soup; second, soap; and finally, salvation.”

Sacraments are not used in church (which is an outward expression of grace).

It is the 4th most popular charity in the US, with private donations of over 2 billion dollars.

The church believes that continuance in a state of salvation depends upon continued obedient faith inSalvation 2 Christ (one can lose their salvation).

About Dr. Robert

I am married to Janet and we have four children. I am active in an evangelical church in southeast Wisconsin in leadership and teaching . I have been an internist for over 30 years and keep busy by taking care of a full load of patients. On the side, I like to write, coach, mentor, spend time with my family just hangin' out, and help take care of our dog; a rusty colored Golden Retriever named Finley.

Salvation Army is the continuation on what the Apostles instructed the “People of the Way” to do for the first Church of Jesus Christ, especially the widows and the orphans.
Grace was the place on Calvary. The empty Tomb is the proof of Grace. The Lord’s Supper is to be a
Remembrance of that last Passover. The Cross of Calvary is where Jesus satisfied the Law and the 10 Commandments.

I agree with the “Country Club” statement! I also want to emphasize Jesus saying to do this in remembrance of Him. The Altar of The Cross is all the forgiveness that I need. The Body (bread) and Blood (wine or grape juice) was Jesus showing that one sacrificial Cross Was enough. This is the new and looked forward to “Passover.”
